DISCOVER IN THE SPERMATOZOIDS
A SPIRAL NEVER SEEN
It is located in the tail, and its function remains a mystery
22/02/2018

Researchers from the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology
at the University of Gothenburg(Sweden) had discovered a strange
structure in the form of helix or spiral that spermatozoon have in their
tail, which had never been observed.
The tail of the sperm is formed by thousands of small blocks of protein
called tubulins, which form larger structures in the form of tubes called
microtubules. In this microtubules is where the spiral had been discovered.
It is suspected that they can act as a barrier to prevent tubulins from
developing abnormally, preventing the sperm from swimming.

Scientific field: Biology

Glossary:
-tubulins:in molecular biology can refer either to the tubulin
protein superfamily of globular proteins, or one of the member proteins of that
superfamily.
-spermatozoon:a motile male gamete of an animal usually
with rounded or elongated head and a long posterior flagellum.

Text comment

It is necessary to study these helices with caution since they perform the
function that is suspected could be something vital for the survival of
some living beings.
