→ Glossary:
-Contamination: Pollution is the introduction of
substances or other physical elements in a medium that cause it to be unsafe or
not suitable for use. The medium can be an ecosystem, a physical medium or a
living being. The pollutant can be a chemical, energy.
It is always a negative alteration of the natural state
of the environment, and generally, it is generated as a consequence of human
activity, considering it a form of environmental impact.
→ Summary: The European Commission has presented a
proposal for a directive to reduce the 10 single-use plastic products that are most
frequently found on the beaches and seas of Europe. These 10 products represent
70% of all marine waste and the European Commission intends to apply different
measures to different articles, so it wants to prohibit the commercialization
of single-use plastic products for which there are affordable alternatives,
such as sticks of cotton and cutlery, plates, straws, drink shakers and plastic
balloon sticks, which must be manufactured with more sustainable materials.
→ Personal opinion: In
my opinion this should have been done a long time ago, because there is a lot
of plastic pollution in the seas and oceans.
